The Stars This Week by Amanda Owen

Try Something New
01/29/07 - 02/04/07

If you can dream it, you can do it! This is a week full of opportunities -- with three sextiles. First, Mercury sextiles Pluto on January 31 before heading into dreamy Pisces on February 2. All the while, a full Moon in Leo sparks your creativity. Then, action planet Mars sextiles independent Uranus on February 3 while the Aquarius Sun sextiles Jupiter on the same day. Don't lie back with all of this dynamic energy! The benefits are there for you to make good use of this period.
January 31: Mercury sextile Pluto
Mercury the communicator loves connecting with intense Pluto, especially in an aspect that offers connection opportunities with people in influential positions. You have exceptionally creative ideas and the ability to sell them. This is a great climate and will provide uncommon receptivity to your ideas. Look around you. Who are the movers and shakers, the powers that be? They are there to help you, so make the connection.
February 1: Full Moon in Leo Heightened emotions are always a feature of full Moons, and when mixed with Leo, oversensitivity is probable. The tendency is to allow your ego to have a bit more voice than it should. At its best, Leo is the sign of healthy self-expression, creativity and leadership. There is so much boldness and strength in this sign, and if you can step forward in a great way, people are sure to take notice. From now until the next new Moon on February 17, see if you can cultivate a more fun-loving, confident approach to life. Be the Sun in the center of your own solar system and shine brightly.
February 2: Mercury enters Pisces
When the planet of communication enters the most imaginative sign of the zodiac, you're likely to dream up things you wouldn't ordinarily. Keep a journal of your most inspiring ideas. You'll be returning to them when Mercury goes retrograde in Pisces on February 14. Find quiet time and give your mind a chance to swim around in the cosmic soup. You'll be surprised at all the insight you receive.
February 3: Mars sextile Uranus
Are you ready to try something different? With action-oriented Mars in an opportunity aspect with wild and zany Uranus, you are likely to feel itchy for new experiences. It's time to make some changes. You won't want to disrupt your world, but do follow your impulse to shake things up a bit. This is an aspect that maximizes possibilities. Open your mind and make the most of this interesting time.
February 3: Sun sextile Jupiter
The Aquarius Sun loves Jupiter in Sagittarius! Both of these signs are interested in freedom and independence, and this aspect provides plenty of chances to improve your life and open your world. Whether you take a trip, get together with friends or start an interesting project at work, it's time to break out of your usual day-to-day routine (otherwise, you are likely to feel restless and irritable). Life's too short to not take advantage of the opportunity to spice things up a bit.

Full Moon
We will feel the influence of Comet McNaught for months to come. That brief, bright beacon on the horizon has presented us with a challenge. Our relationship with the physical world has to change. Nature needs us to show her more respect. How can we respect the planet, though, when we do not respect one another? This week's Full Moon echoes that invitation to stop and think. How do we relate to our fellow passengers on spaceship Earth? Are we ready to choose forgiveness over resentment and a willingness to learn over a desire to dominate? The more open we are willing to be, the brighter the future can become.

Change is in the Air
01/22/06 - 01/28/06

Earlier this month, Mars connected to the Saturn-Pluto trine, which will be exact later this year. This week, relationship-oriented Venus talks to these two powerful players, opposing Saturn on January 22 and sextiling Pluto on January 26. But the major planetary news this week is freedom-oriented planets Jupiter and Uranus forming a square on January 22. Then, rounding out the week, lovely Venus enters gentle Pisces on January 26.

January 26: Venus sextile Pluto
This lovely aspect of Venus sextile Pluto brings opportunities to deepen your connections with others. There is nothing superficial about Pluto, whose tendency is to express everything passionately, while the planet of love, Venus, is all about relating. Together, these two manifest the healing power of love, so this is a great time to express your affection. Pick up the phone, write a poem or plan a quiet evening out with someone near and dear to you.

January 27: Venus enters Pisces
Venus continues it recent soulful theme entering Pisces. Communing with others on a spiritual level is extra important right now. Venus's previous placement in Aquarius centered on the more enduring friendship qualities of love, whereas watery Pisces is wholly immersed in the feeling world. There are times when love needs no words.

Today's Outlook: A powerful square between buoyant Jupiter and unpredictable Uranus -- a pattern that lasts through October -- provokes extreme action and offers great rewards for bold behavior. But we are subdued by an isolating opposition from warm Venus to cold Saturn that challenges our self-esteem and makes us wonder if we are truly loved. A supportive sextile from communicator Mercury gives us hope, while the Moon in Pisces stirs our imagination. By Rick Levine., copyright 2005, Tarot.com

Capricorn New Moon:
The Capricorn Happiness Coach
by Dana Gerhardt
Capricorn inspires both our dreams for achievement and the realization that life doesn’t always turn out as we planned. Capricorn rules ambition—and reality—and after that, comes a little wisdom. This is where we get to change our minds and say screw it. Or to paraphrase J. Alfred Prufrock, "I grow old, I grow old. I wear the bottom of my pants legs rolled… so what? As long as I’m happy."
Only the young write New Year’s Resolutions....

Capricorn New Moon Meditation:
In Your Patience is Your Soul
by Pythia Peay
As we turn and face the New Year, we can use the energy of this New Moon to turn inward, and cultivate soulful patience. For while we may feel inspired to rush forward to put our dreams and New Year's resolutions into action, the heavens offer us an interlude of reflection. Indeed, if we can resist the forward pull of everyday life, we can realize within our consciousness the esoteric teachings embodied in the sign of Capricorn: the wisdom that comes with patiently abiding the ever-moving, ever-changing cycles of time....

Set a New Course
01/15/06 - 01/21/06
This is a week of endings and beginnings as Mercury, Mars and the Sun enter new signs. First, Mercury enters freethinking Aquarius on January 15 followed by Mars's entrance into achievement-oriented Capricorn on January 16. The Sun transits into humanitarian Aquarius on January 20. But just prior the Sun's new journey, Venus conjuncts Neptune on January 18, so you might feel Cupid's arrow when you least expect it.
January 15: Mercury enters Aquarius
When Mercury, the planet of communication, enters free-spirited Aquarius, you have truly original ideas. Now is the time to stay with them, develop them and speak about them. Above all, be inventive and think outside of the box.
January 16: Mars enters Capricorn
It's amazing what some people can accomplish in a day, and as Mars enters ambitious Capricorn, you'll get a couple of months to emulate those determined folks. Now is the time to pursue anything that requires loads of discipline and tenacity. Start that diet or exercise program, find the love of your life or finish your dissertation. When you take the warrior energy of Mars and put it in the sign represented by the determined mountain goat, there's little you can't accomplish. Put all of your great ideas into motion and charge forth!
January 18: Venus conjunct Neptune
Are you ready to fall in love? When Venus, the planet of personal love, joins up with Neptune, the planet of spiritual love, your soul will yearn to experience a deep connection. You can't help but open your heart now. Idealism is high, and you are likely to see beauty in the least expected places. Make the most of this energy by spending special time with your favorite fabulous person -- especially if that person is you!
January 20: Sun enters Aquarius
Aquarius is often mistaken for a water sign because its symbol is the Water Bearer. This sign is actually part of the air element and is connected to the world of ideas. Many Aquarians are known for being forward thinking, unconventional and even rebellious. Often their ideas are cutting-edge, which can be both a blessing and a curse. Every year as the Sun transits Aquarius, you have the opportunity to be less conservative, to be a bit of a wild child and add something totally different, innovative and exciting to your life.

Your Week Ahead
Mars, this week, enters Capricorn. There's a New Moon in the same sign of the sea-goat at the end of the week. Mercury, meanwhile, joins Venus in the sign of the water carrier. Many people, understandably, imagine that Aquarius must be a water sign. They also think that if Capricorn is symbolised by a sea-goat, it must also have a connection to the water element. Not so. Aquarius is Air. Capricorn is Earth. Indeed, there's very little happening in the heavenly water signs this week. Which makes it a good time for talking, thinking and 'doing' but not such a great time for exploring and expressing emotion.

Hard Work Pays Off If You're Flexible
01/08/06 - 01/14/06

Before the action planet Mars reaches the conjunction to powerful Pluto on January 13, he forms a supportive trine to Saturn, the planet of responsibility, on January 8. With such leadership energy, showing your strength is important now. Don't be inflexible though, because as the Sun forms a quincunx aspect to Saturn on January 14, you will have to modify your plans. With all of this intense, serious energy, thank goodness Venus sextiles Jupiter on January 12 -- this is an aspect that's all about having fun.
January 8: Mars trine Saturn
As Saturn and Pluto are in the range of a trine, Mars traveling through Sagittarius connects with hard-working Saturn and will conjunct Pluto later this week. Nothing beats this aspect for accomplishment, as the zeal and enthusiasm of the action planet in Sagittarius finds support from those in authority. The powers-that-be recognize your efforts and let you know. If there is a project you want to take on or another route that you want to explore, now is the time to advance yourself. Stay focused on your long-term goals. Patience and dedication are your allies.
January 12: Venus sextile Jupiter
Venus sextile Jupiter is a very social combination, so in the midst of an otherwise fairly intense week, take a breather and treat yourself to something you will enjoy. Dinner out with friends, a romantic evening with someone special or even a short trip will help give you the balance you need. There's nothing like getting away to give you a renewed and fresh perspective.
January 13: Mars conjunct Pluto
If you play well with others and don't try to run everything on your own, influential people will align themselves with you. If you are a control freak and alienate those who could help you, reconsider what you are doing. This aspect has fabulous potential if you handle yourself well. Mars is the planet of action and desire, Pluto symbolizes power and Sagittarius is a sign that symbolizes beliefs systems. This is an intense combo, and how everybody handles this dynamic energy will be important. There can be a tendency to act in a ruthless manner, so assess if, how, when or where to fight for what you believe in.
January 14: Sun quincunx Saturn
The Sun in dependable Capricorn meets Saturn in leadership Leo. If you want to move up the ladder and achieve your goals, it is necessary to take stock of what people want from you. You may need to deal with some unexpected responsibilities. Make the necessary adjustments to bring about a successful transition.
